Our approach to therapy integrates techniques from:

  • Positive Psychotherapy

Positive psychotherapy is an approach focused on increasing your wellbeing and capitalizing on your strengths, while also acknowledging that life is often challenging. You may benefit from this therapy if you are looking to find meaning, joy, and purpose in life. We’ll focus on setting clear, attainable goals, celebrating your successes, and fostering resilience, personal growth, and self-acceptance.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT is an evidence-based treatment well-suited for individuals experiencing anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and distress related to chronic illness and chronic pain. ACT helps you live a meaningful life despite hardships by teaching you to accept the presence of all types of thoughts and feelings and getting in touch with your core values.

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT is an evidence-based treatment for people with borderline personality disorder (BPD), depression, anxiety and more. It helps you shift from “black-and-white” thinking to “both-and” thinking. While we do not offer comprehensive DBT, we do offer DBT-informed therapy, meaning we can teach you DBT skills to help you manage your emotions and improve your relationships.

We believe that therapy isn’t politically neutral.

To provide the best therapy possible, we must address the systemic issues that affect our clients’ mental health. In a political climate that's increasingly hostile to women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, and immigrants, we want to be explicit about where we stand. No matter what’s going on in the world outside our door, our office remains a safe space.

Blue Spruce Counseling operates as a therapy collective.

What does this mean? Our therapists collaborate in an equal partnership by sharing resources, knowledge, and support, while they each own their own single-member limited liability corporation (LLC). We’ve chosen this model of practice because we believe it’s the most equitable way for us to collaborate and offer high-quality care to our clients.
